Treebeard the Ent

From the Fangorn forests, lies the tree herder....Treebeard, an Ent.

Though Lord of the Rings movie craze has long gone by, even with the revival of "The Hobbits", the hype is no longer strong as before.

Nevertheless, the characters from Lord of the Rings still goes strong in the hearts of the fans. Treebeard is one of the easily identified characters and has given us the fantasy of a talking tree. How magnificent!

Today I have gotten a Treebeard designed by Applause and he is my second varied from the Toybiz made. He is indeed a very detailed and "flexible" tree which has no articulation for you to pose. For this sculpt, he is more softer and greener which has a very comforting tree effect.

His body are covered by greens and beard with leaves growing on it. The only weird part shall be his eyes which is not very well painted. It looks somewhat dumb if you look longer.

His branches of fingers looks like they are stretching to grab you.

Made of a rubbery plastic material that is slightly bendable, it makes him less fragile. With zero articulation, that means he is basically a statue.

The contentment I got from him is his details and 360 degrees of tree likeness.

With Merry and Pippin sitting on his top branches, it gives you a little peep into their adventure into the Fangorn forests and beyond. Something that this toy is able to transcend you into that period, I hoped.

Though he is not sculpted close to the movie version but I feel he has more likeness to the fantasy in the books. He might makes a good coffee top display while you read the Lord of the Rings?

Happy hunting and Don't be Hasty !

Collection Exposed : Battle-Cry Uruk-Hai

From the Lord of the Rings, seen in the Battle of Helms Deep during the Two Towers, this Uruk-Hai locks on the battalions of Uruk-Hais through his cries and wave of torch.

Created by the then ToyBiz, he is one of the less significant figures in the show but one of a kind action figures in the LOTR collection.

What's the Catch? : Orc Captain from the Lord of the Rings

The Hobbits are here again and raises a little hype over the LOTR figures lately on the market here. But not big enough to create a snowball effect yet.

For the older figures produced by ToyBiz, they are getting some attention from collectors again and gaining on. Luckily, I have been collecting LOTR for some time and do not have to fight over the general figures and prices.

But these do not deter me to scout for rare figures which I come across the market.

And here I got myself a carded piece of Orc Captain which in numbers, he is kind of rare in LOTR line. Of course there are some other rare stuff as well.

Generally, sculpt and playability are still there for Toybiz figures back in a decade ago, and he does look wicked and crude.

So here he is.......

What's the Catch? : Ringwraith Riding

Phew...!!! It has been more than a week since my last post. Been busy and unable to write but never miss the opportunity to seize the right toy that comes along.

And here comes a chance when my infrequent visits to the flea market ends up with no picks. But sometimes, you just hit it and I pick up a toy from Lord of the Rings.

My precious.....

Sounds familiar?

That is Gollum's verse for this precious and what is your precious. Hope you do not get too attached to your toys yeh.

One of my favorite toy lines from Toybiz and still collecting along my way, I pick up my second pair of the Ringwraith with the horse at a good price.

With the Hobbits movie coming along and the toys which I previewed, were no match to the original line, this set of Ringwraith and horse really kicks in. Wonder how many still remembers this line of toys, which of course, is not consider vintage yet.

The horse is well detailed but comes with a playable yet unnecessary front kicking action at the push of the button on it's butt (Butt - On?).

The red eyes lit up when you pull the rope. Cool !!!

Ringwraith figure is not so great since he is always hollow and faceless, but he does comes with a sword and scabbard. Some tattering of the cloak and mud splattering completes the figure.

Nevertheless, here is the menace reveal from my journey to the toy hunt.

What's the Catch? : New Born Lurtz - Lord of the Rings

Another hit and bingo !!! Got this raw New Born Lurtz at "reasonably good" price. Last month I got hold of the Over Seer with the new born lurtz. Now comes a full grown Lurtz.

This figure is coming to 12 years of age and still new born....

Comes with a whip and playable action.

Still mint in box but box not so mint. To me, box not so important as long as the figure is mint and price is good.

If you have been following my blog, I am a fan of LOTR figures from Toybiz and still collecting pieces along the way. Not like I am completing a full collection from this toy line, rather, just fun collecting with reasonable priced. It keeps the fun going with every piece collected with memories.

What's the Catch? : Orc Overseer - The Lord of the Rings

Here comes another mid year and soon it will be Christmas. Talking about Winter in this Hot Summer days. By the time we are fried, it is the pouring rain or snow for some people.

Whenever we are, a good catch is an exciting catch with a price to match below expectation. Here is the fun and satisfaction of the toy hunt.

It has been quite some time since I got hold of a real catch at a good price. As lord of the Rings has passed it's decade anniversary, we are looking forward to the backward series of the Hobbits in December.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the toys to be made. Hopefully, it can match Toybiz standards or better. We shall see....

Ok, here is what I got....The Orc OverSeer from Isengard, who serves Saruman to whip out the Orcs

This piece is rare to me and I believe it is, since I only get to see him priced ridiculously high and uncommon. That makes it rare, to me.

Does not matter.

It comes with a freshly dug out Orc and an "Alien copied" shell.

OverSeer comes with a whip and an evil face.

Another add on to my LOTR collection.

What's the Catch? : Prince Isildur, Council Legolas and Strider from Lord of the Rings

Lord of the Rings is still one of my favourite movies since its debut in 2001. Amazing scenes and mythical settings with knights, Elves, Orcs. Fantasy in a box.

I began collecting the actions figures at a later stage where fans start dropping out and that is where genuine fans stayed and continue to savour the fantasy. At that time, I would say Toybiz has done a great job for most of the figures which they have acquired the scanning technology to bring the accuracy of the figures to life. Even now I still think they are great figures to me and I am still hunting them down.

So to say, I am still collecting a piece or two, whenever I come across a figure which I do not have and at a reasonable price. Afterall, the fun of collecting is not just about getting the toy I want but get a good deal out of it and you got to meet people from the same interest. It is a part of the package in the adventure of toy hunting and spotting.

Everybody wants to buy low and eventually hope to sell high. If the latter part is your intent, then we know where is your stand. But my advice is, toys are never meant for investments and even if it do, it is a lesser investment instrument to land your money into. And if you have attachment to your investment instrument, it will be hard for you to make sensible judgement to dispose as toys are emotion and attachment items. Non-attachment is one of the key to successful investment. Oh I getting a bit too far. Let us get back to middle earth.

Ok, as I am saying on my collecting of LOTR figures, I bumped into these 3 figures which I bought over the flea market.

First I saw Prince Isildur and Wow, that is one figure which I never came across in my search in "evil bay" so I decide to go for it.

Saw another Council Legolas, which I have been eyeing for long and have yet to get it. Finally, got him within budget.

Third is a figure of strider, which I do not have. It is quite a regular figure, since he is not in my collection. I might as well get him at a bundle price with Legolas from the seller.

So here they are. Not impressive but enough to light me up after many hard days before....
