Movies Screen : PACIFIC RIM

This movie has been off the silver screen for months now and the reason why I post it is that the toys are still gaining on the collectors. I think I should give some credits to this monster movie and give you another KAIJU time !

Cool giant robots and hideous monsters (Kaiju) with end of the world threat. What a typical story background but we never got sick of such fantasy. Putting these three elements together is like dropping an atomic bomb on the silver screen. Either you are overwhelm or you go cool...

The last time I saw a Japanese re-enactment of Kaiju into Hollywood blockbuster is Godzilla and now we have many many monsters that resembles of the Kaiju we saw in Japanese Ultraman.

For these Hollywood made Kaiju, they replicate after animals which we can easily relate to and they are awesome and beautiful from the screen.

The robots known as Jaeger remind me of a bigger version of Real Steel and still kicking fresh in my mind. They are piloted by humans and you need two to sustain and control a Jaeger. It is kind of a hazardous and dangerous job to do.

So what do you have to lose since you will be getting a movie with three awesome ingredients.

What's the Catch?: Pacific Rim KnifeHead (Kaiju)

Coming from the Pacific Rim, this is one the first Kaiju which I bought over and gotten on hand. I may have missed series one and replenish with KnifeHead which is not my priority but having to ship in series 2, makes it a good reason to pack in another Kaiju to join them.

Here is KnifeHead and he is a detail Kaijun by Neca standards, however, I find a little small and have also some issues seen over the many reviews in the web.

I can only size him up when I released him from this plastic enclosure which is keeping him well in captivity.

Movies Screen : The Hobbit - The Desolution of Smaug

December is round the corner as we speak and here is the anticipated movie trilogy from the Hobbits.

The Desolution of Smaug.

Somehow, the hobbits is not as enticing during the times of the Lord of the Rings, which can be explained through the popularity between the two novels.

Well, as a Lord of the Rings fans, you shall not miss this sequel of fantasy.

Before we got to see it on the silver screen, let us just devour the excitement from it's trailer.

Collection Exposed : Alien Queen boxset - McFarlane

Fumbling through my store, I found my Alien Queen boxset sitting comfortably and hidden away from the light for years, waiting for the moment to come to dawn. This is where every toys' wish to break out from our dungeon of toys.

This is an impressive box set produced by McFarlane under the Movie Maniacs line back in 2003 and it has been 10 years since it's birth. To date, it is still an unmatched figure and the whole packaging is packed with graphics. This is what McFarlane is about back in their final years of Movie Maniacs.

This Alien Queen features 10 points of articulations and a bendy tail, comes with a custom diorama base and a human with a chest buster that you can have play action. Sounds amazing? It may not for now but it is, a decade ago.

However, the details and set up is commendable to be in my collection. As Halloween is round the corner. Any Alien cosplay around? I wonder.

Toy Viewing : Black Heart of Marvel Legends

Black Heart from the Marvel Legends series produced by Toybiz.

This figure caught my attention not because of his origins but the fact that he is the most Alien kind amongst the marvel legends figures and seemingly resemblance to Aliens as in the movies. I can easily match him up with my other Alien figures and non action figure enthusiast will even mistake him for one of the kind.

Well, he is indeed a unique figure to own. Reading many reviews before I got him, I contemplated with the usual problem of standing and without the help of his long tail, standing is almost impossible. He is kind of stiff to me in terms of articulations, however, the details from from his head to toe nails are immerse.

He might have inherited some details from the Predator which may genetically link to both Predator and Aliens creation, just like in the hybrid Predator-Alien in the movie.

The ragged texture on his body, legs, arms and hands gives a good sense of creep to his figure.

His feet are featured like the Aliens feet which can articulate to stand on his front toes.

He is touched up with purplish blue and black colors which makes him glow in the dark.

Overall, a great figure for me but he does take up some space since he needs his long tail for support and that means he needs depth in your shelves.

What's the Catch? : Marvel Legends Modern Thor and Modern Armor Iron Man

Still in my Marvel Legends craze, I recently picked up two figures from the Marvel legends series. Each from either decade, Toybiz Modern Armor Iron Man and Hasbro Modern Thor.

From the package, we can easily identify their origins as a collector or Marvel enthusiast, and see how far and how little Marvel Legends has gone.

Hasbro is making efforts to catch up where Toybiz has left and it starts to gain some prominence in its sculpt and details but lacking the accessories that the predecessor put in. Face it, we can never get what a decade ago presented to us in terms of price, quantity and may be quality, but looking forward, we do get some good stuff and more with less.

I have tried to stay away from this Modern Armor Iron Man with so many negative reviews on him but I just have to give him some credits for the detailed base which he came with although he is kind of thin.

As for Modern Thor, I chose him over the SDCC version as I can forgo the packaging and settle with the more succumb version of him, rather than the lightning effect that somewhat looks comical to me.

For some reminiscence, these are what I got before I tear them out for freedom.

Toy Viewing : Beast of the Marvel Legends

Beast, a mutant of agility and strength. He is also a brain child of the X-Men, not like Professor X or Jean Grey.

This is the Beast from the Marvel Legends created by Toybiz and a figure of great articulations which can mimic the likeness of the Ape.

The poses which you can do with him is immerse and fun. The head sculpt somehow reminds me of Wolverine and with the setback of the long neck that I assume it is for the opening of his jaw. The claws and feet are highly detailed and large enough for stability.

Details of fur are sculpted onto its arms, legs and body to better feature him as an Ape character.

All in all, a very articulated and fun figure to own. I have yet to see any new Marvel legends figures that match this standard of flexibility to date yet. Let's just wait and see.

For now, make the beast out of you.

Portraits of Toyz : The Marvelous Beast

Agility and wisdom are his strength. To keep up, you got to match up!
