Prometheus to Aliens

The Iconic Xenomorph has been a great 80's movie, Aliens and it's sequel, which children only have Kenner figures to play around back then. For toy geeks, these are awesome but never have they thought of the day will come to actually see and get movie accurate figures until many have grown out of their younger years. If you survive the test of time and toy geekology process (which I have no idea what is it, Haha), your patience have paid off.

Movie accurate action figures mainly appears only in the early 21st Century designed by McFarlane followed by Neca.

Many have been and will be churned out for the market, which has reduced the excitement for the Xenomorph action figures and we are kind of sick of it, however, the heat still pushes on.

When we have a prequel to Alien......Prometheus in 2012, this strike a little spark again.

No matter how the movie has fared, the action figures designed by Neca, have given a level of excitement for Alien fans. Sounds like toys saved the movie for toy geeks.

Both the Engineer, in pressure suit and chair suit mode from Series 1 design, displayed amazing sculpt which led me to collect them and able to appreciate the toys more than the movie.

Even if you do not watch the movie, being an action figure enthusiast, will make up the ignorance.

If you compares the Pressure Suit Engineer against the Chair Suit Engineer, you can observe that the Pressure Suit Engineer is slightly smaller in size than Chair Suit Engineer. Why? I guess they take into account of the Engineer suiting up in Chair Suit which I think this is detail consideration.

The detailing in both Engineer figures are incredible for his size and to make a plain white base figure takes some challenge on the paint works to highlight the details on the Pressure Suit Engineer. Undeniably, the Chair Suit Engineer's black base paint work have brought out the detailing on the figure.

No matter how many times you watch the reviews online, nothing compares to seeing them in your hands.

In my opinion, both these Engineers are worth getting a stand in your collection even if you are not a die-hard Prometheus fan or just want good figures from the movie line.

Who Let the Dog Out? Hound of Predators !

Every hunter needs a dog, so does Predators.

The Tracker Predator bred and trained the Hounds for efficient hunting until their trophy is entirely eaten up which they end up price-less.

There are so many horns and tusks going around the Hound that it looks like his head is very well protected by it and he got plenty of canine teeth in his mouth. Is he chewing teeth or prey? An in-built power-grinding machine.

He is pretty well articulated for his limbs and legs and even with open mouth action!

If you are looking to be the leader of the pack, build this army of Hounds.

Heroes of Pacific Rim

Coming from the Pacific Rim series, Neca has brought us the 3rd wave of Robots even when the movie has drained out it's appeal. This shows that the toys are selling well to get us another series.

Other than Crimson Typhoon that I missed out, here are the 4 Robots that I have.

What's the Catch : Resident Evil - The Hunter

 

Surprises are always round the corner when you least expected and that is when you are hit with excitement.

I chanced upon a piece of Hunter figure from the Resident Evil done by Neca and I do not care if I played the game but he is just one gorgeous mutant to come by.

Hauling back...the next Predators...Series 14

I have been anticipating for the arrival of Neca Series 14 Predators after I saw the preview pictures of them especially the two predators featured. I was not actually very keen on the Thermal Vision Dutch out of the three figures.

I finally got them through my winning bid in Ebay and eagerly trying to get them soon.

Today, I drove a long distance to get them the latest series 14 Predators and was very impressed at what I have. Both Borg Predator and Wasp Predator are not a disappointment as expected. As for the Thermal Vision Dutch, he does win some points over me even though he is the least favorite.

All back cards still bears the previous series 13 "Kenner' style design and features the Predators for each piece.

The Battle Armor Lost Predator aka Borg is a masked version of the previous unmasked Borg and features impressively sculpted helmet coupled with his armor. He comes with throwing disc seen in Predators 2, sword and sheath.

Wasp Predator origins from the fan made movie and he is from the Red Clan which Big Red has been released in series 7. Only difference is the paint job into a yellow-back color scheme but they gave him a spear staff with an impaled Alien head. Very impressive. Cool.

Thermal Vision Dutch from the first movie and through the vision of  predator, Dutch is seen as this outlook. It looks weird to have a figure like this and I think Neca is daring enough to push this forward to the fans. Everything about him is translucent glowing green, even for his weapons. Face it, he is the same Dutch which was painted previously. Now they change the plastic and splash him with dashes of red and yellow. He is a unique action figure to have and can be made impressive with a base light to make him glow. It is not everyone's favorite figure but this is the kind of figure which you like it or hate it.

These three figures are of individuality so they came from different theme and background. You do not have to keep them as a set.

Well, this set is indeed another improvement after series 13 which is worth picking up. If you missed the previous series, forget about them and get this set.

This is the first impression look of the figures looking outside their package. Detail viewing will require breaking them from the plastic enclosure. I shall share further when time is ripe.

For speculation, I am hoping if the next 18 inch Predators will be based on this set of Wasp and Borg Predators. Something tells me it might be........

What's the Catch : NightStorm Predator (Neca Series 10)

The NightStorm Predator !!!

From the Neca series 10 which inspired by Kenner Predator lines, Neca has donned the package design of the Kenner era and upgrade the Predators.

Though he is not a total new mold which due to economy of scale, it does make sense for NECA to re-use their Berserker Predator and touch up with the existing armor. Every predator is yearning for a removable mask to be released and coupled with a new staff, he is one awesome Predator to rule.

For this series 10, I have been contemplating whether to get all the three figures of the series but finally settled only with the Nightstorm as he is the first and only predator that comes with removable helmet plus a touch of Egyptian design. The blue body paint coat and coupled with gold armor does makes him pops out from the usual Predators.

Another sweet addition to my predator's clan. Any comments are welcome. Good Day !

What's the Catch : Battle Damaged Predator

Recent claim over my predators craze, he is a much worth while difference to add into my clan since we are getting a number of classic predators by Neca. This version shows the battle damaged mainly on his damaged mask exposing his left eye and exposing some of his head coupled with some scratch marks after the fight. Needless to say, some green blood to go along.

If you ever had the Classic Predator, basically, its the head and the blood splash that differs from the original.

As a classic representation of Predator, he is indeed very well sculpted by Neca and we are seeing waves of Predators coming out to entice us and draw our blood money out.

With so many Predators to choose from, I have decided to collect mainly the masked Predators which make up their main uniqueness and give them a sense of individuality.

He is just one of the few Predators who join into my clan.

Working together as a team in an all round defending mode. Who are they defending at? Me?

What's the Catch? : Pacific Rim Jaeger & Kaiju Series II

From the Pacific Rim, they landed on my shores in a shockwave !!!

Neca has bring on the series 2 of the Pacific Rim with Battle Damaged Gypsy Danger, Striker Eureka and LeatherBack.

Impressive and detailed set. I just cannot give them a miss.

The Kaijua LeatherBack is a reincarnation of a Gorilla like creature and he is massive in weight and size.

For Gypsy Danger, I like this version of Battle-Damaged more than the first series and he comes with two saw blades.

Striker Eureka has received many good reviews but for me, his wear wash effect somehow makes him feel old and tired while adding to its color choice.

All these comments are just my views through looking them in the package. I think, they may differ when I release them from their enclosure.

What's the Catch?: Pacific Rim KnifeHead (Kaiju)

Coming from the Pacific Rim, this is one the first Kaiju which I bought over and gotten on hand. I may have missed series one and replenish with KnifeHead which is not my priority but having to ship in series 2, makes it a good reason to pack in another Kaiju to join them.

Here is KnifeHead and he is a detail Kaijun by Neca standards, however, I find a little small and have also some issues seen over the many reviews in the web.

I can only size him up when I released him from this plastic enclosure which is keeping him well in captivity.

 

 

Toy Viewing : Marv of Sin City

Marv, a die hard character created by Frank Miller and being cast into the Movie, Sin City. Mickey Rourke portrayed Marv in roughness and toughness.

The movie has also brought a series of characters which NECA produced brilliantly and detailed sculpted as well.

Not a very popular line for mainstream collectors, this Marv stands at 18 inch is sturdy and stiff. As usual, electronic sounds plays some lines from the movie.

Since I collect 18 inches figures, this Marv just popped right in as I found him reasonably priced to purchase. You cannot expect articulation from this size of figures and they are just looking great and mighty standing and posing in his charismatic way.

I only found accessories such as the pistol and canister (?) Hmmm...I am suspecting I missed the necklace. Where is it?

The trench coat is well done except for a minor problem at the armpit area where you can see his white T-shirt inside which not supposed to be. But you have to have to had some sacrifice for the arm articulation isn't it. This trench coat should be similar to the Eric Kraven, Crow, which is also produced by NECA.

The boots are well-sculpted with a loosely tied laces and ruggedness. This is somewhat similar again to The Crow.

Anyway, admire the box art given and the figure I posted of Marv, the hardy man.

Toy Viewing : Guile and Akuma in the dance floor

Pick a fight over the dance floor. Here comes Guile and Akuma from the Street fighter produced by NECA.

Great articulation and acceptable face sculpt other than the others in the series. For a quarter of the price of the PlayArts figures, they are a worth while finds.

They can just do some breaking on the dance floor.

Toy Viewing : Reservoir Dogs

A 1992 American crime film directed by Quentin Tarantino. Never mind the story or plot if you never knew them but it does make more sense if you know where they came from.

I posted a mono portraits of them to capture the background mood of their style. Now, I shall showcase them in color to you.

All six men uses colored name like, "Mr White", " Mr Blonde", "Mr Pink", "Mr Orange","Mr Brown" (Played by Quentin Tarantino). Wonder why Mr Blue is not in the pack.

Honestly, I did not watch the movie before and only know about this cult classics hit when I saw it in NECA website. Oopss...!

Produced by NECA in 2007, they eventually repackaged them in a boxset.

For me, I got it loose and almost 99.9% complete and why do I get them? I got them because they are in suits and they will make up a pack for my Kill Bill set as one of the gangsters, like Crazy 88 fighters.
