Flash Back : Mutant Monsters Wolverine #Marvel

 

Today, I throw you back to the 90's and zoom back to find one of the crazy idea action figures ever created.

I bumped into Mutant Monsters Wolverine upon my arrival in 1996 and he is a wolf clad with torn trails of Wolverine's X-Men classic uniform.

Is he Wolverine that turns into Wolf? Or he is just a wolf getting a hip of Wolverine.

It was design and meant to be Wolverine turning into wolf and howls his way to fight.

There is many imaginations in this figure. He can be a werewolf, Wolverine in Wolf form, Halloween figure and yes, he howls.....Sound gimmick!

In size, he stands up to 7 inches and display the best Wolverine claws that is straight and mean!

The articulations aren't great and very old school and have an ugly gaps at his armpit area. As a howling wolf, he has a jaw articulation to add on.

Overall, a very interesting action figure.

I would recommend if you are an Wolverine fan, Marvel classics, old school collectors, Monsters collectors, go for it!

He is quite rare to come in 2016. Good luck!

Flashback : Pirate Two-Face

Following up with Pirate Batman, I have to introduce his arch enemy, Pirate Two Face and he is one tough thug to battle against.

Pirate Two-Face however, shows a basic standing pose but feature a cool Pirate Captain wooden leg. His hideous green scarred face is well sculpted with details and wears a cool officer coat.

You can still swivel his blades around using the dial action on the back of the figure. This allows you to fight against the Batman and land him in pain.


Both figures are fun and gives a child so much imagination of play which the world of fantasy and marvel lives on.

Flashback : Pirate #Batman

It is back to the legends of Batman where we see the incarnation of Batman as a Pirate over here.

Kenner has designed a 2 figure pack for this pirate series where Batman can fight alongside with Two-Face, the hideous Captain.

Both have rotating arms that you can manipulate through the dial at the back of the figures. Interesting play value and a signature fun factor for 90's toys as well.

Standing at 5 inch tall, they are spotting the basic 5 points articulations with limited stance especially for Batman.

However, the fencing stance with his cape design flows along and you can start fencing your enemy off.

Flashback : Egyptian #Batman

Lining up from my last post on Egyptian Catwoman , I had to complete this set with the Egyptian Batman since they came in a duo pack.

A great 90's representation of Batman figures which we used to see and you will probably never see such toys being made now or the future.

Having said that, you will see Batman have a few accessories with him.

1) Removable Egyptian Headgear
2) Removable Cape
3) Egyptian style Bat Staff

As for pose-ability, he is in an almost fixated stance where he looks in complete battle when you hook him up with catwoman.

The details are still very visibly in place for such a 5 inch tall figure like him.

I personally like the stance he is in and well, you just have to accept his lack of articulations. If he has a swivel wrists then that will be perfect for his grabbing pose while holding his staff to fend off his foe.

Flashback : Egyptian CatWoman

 
From the Legends of Batman brought back by Kenner through the history of the Egyptian era, we are transported back to the Pharaohs reign where CatWoman became the mighty Tyrant Pharaoh to rule and put all to slavery.

The history of this figure is dated only at 1995 which is gives us about 19 years to date.

Being Kenner figure, CatWoman is simply articulated with 6 points and presented with a stature like stunt who wields the power of her Claw staff complete with her Cat Pharaoh headgear and articulated tail.

Upon removing her headgear, she still wears a kitty head dress with a cat imprinted on the forehead. This is also observed on her belt. It is great to see such tiny details where we always overlook and take for granted.

She has claws on both hands and feet who is ready for a fight anytime. Total outfit is very Egyptian fashion.

This is no Hello......Kitty you want to mess with and only one man can bring her down the throne. We shall see...

Flashback : Maverick of Marvel !

Lately, I have been doing Flashback for my earlier toys as they start flooding out of my collections. Looking at them, it does reminds me when I bought them and maybe who they are. Most of these toys never get the limelight in the cyberspace now and so it is time I feature them in my blog to you.

They definitely do not fit into the high standards of the toys now, however, they have some charisma which today's toys are losing. They are the grandfather of today's toy's success.

Ok, today, I have Maverick from Marvel produced by Toy Biz in 1994. Initially, I do not know who he is but after researching in the internet, I can proudly present him as Maverick to you.

Little have I known about this character but for the action figure, he is just one simple basic 5 inch figure that only comes with 8 points of articulation coupled with a Quick Draw Weapon Action. A play feature characteristics of 90's toys. The stunts which you probably can get him to articulate is fairly limited, which is just about what you will see below.

Paint work is lousy, blemishes here and there. The unique part is where the 4 cables are attached from his backpack to his head.

He comes with 2 weapons and I lost one of them but I replaced with another in the picture.

What do you think? Still as Cool.....?

Flashback : Mystique Monster Armor

Today in Flashback, we have X-Men Monster Armor series, Mystique.

Back in the 90's, Marvel has chunk out various representations of the comic characters and one unique series features Mystique, Rogue, Cyclops, Sinister and Wolverine which depicts them as Monster mutation.

Here, I have Mystique which is still awesome even for her age and with the snap on parts, she transform from a 5 inch figure into a 6.5 inch Monster.

As a basic figure, she is based on her signature comic costume and the monster parts are sculpted with claws, furs and skulls. That is something cool to see on a 90's figure.

Back then, I did not really take notice of such details when I bought her and mainly because she is cheap at that time of purchase. Torn it open and that's it. However, when I pull it out today and examine the details on her, it makes me realizes we will probably not get such toys anymore.

The one things still stands out about her, is the plastic quality that she has which can withstand multiple battle damage, scrapping only the paint works but not the structure.Mine just shown some yellowing and minor wears to go along for some style.

Such snap on features are fondly adapted in the 90's toys and sometimes, it do not hold so well. Just like the mask on Mystique, it cannot snap on snugly onto her head.

If you put such toys on the front today, how many will even take a look at them now.

Flashback : The Riddler from Batman Forever

Blasting from the Past of 1990's, action figures are basic and comes with gadgets to play around. In the infamous Batman Sequel of Batman Forever, The Riddler, played by Jim Carrie, has put down the Batman character and thus stole the limelight from him.

And an action figure based on "The Riddler" is never missed. What I have here is a typical Riddler who comes with his icon Question Mark, except it is upgraded into a bazooka that shoots a projector.

Very basic figure but small wonders packs with a signature grin of Jim Carrie and a Question Mark outfit.

Wolverine fights Robo enemy !

Training for fights, simulation is one program where X-Men gets to fight in tandem.

As Wolverine ego picks up, will he wins this fight over the Robo Sabretooth incarnation.

Looking as proud and fierce as always.

Faces down with the nemesis.

He sure is tough and throws the wolf on the ground.

Snapping off his claws. Will Wolverine give up?

This is an action figure pair from the X-Men Robo fighter series which was produced back in the 90's. As know for this limited articulations, Wolverine features removable claws with a bad hair do.

The Robo has a face of Sabretooth and rotating arms and claws. While he turns, the arms rotates which is a play features for toys back then.

This is how toys are design in the 90's with added fun features and looks lame now. However, toys are meant to be fun where now they became a display.

Flashback : StarCom : The U.S Space Force

Another Flashback time. Let us travel back to the 80's, when cartoons and toys are thriving in craze.

StarCom, a 1980's cartoon series and produces innovative toys back then. Considering toys with automatic motion without batteries. It fascinates every new kid on the block. With a touch of the button...zzzzzz. the cargo bay of the vehicle comes out mechanically.

In addition, it features magnetic features for the figures boots to be attached to the parts of the vehicles which is to simulate gravity utilized in space missions.

For me, I only have the Starmax bomber with Captain Rip Malone, which is kind of a price piece for me. Due to age and play, it has definitely seen it's years of mission. Now it has collected a neat wear from discoloration and rust. I see it as a battle wear though it is no longer displays it's whiteness. It has been customized over time. It is two tone design now and all I did for him is general cleaning and I just leave the stains as it is.

It still have the 4 bombs but the side cannons have decommissioned due to battle damaged.

Do not think there is another just like mine as it brings back fond memories of adventure and childhood silliness.

Come to think of it, Captain Rip is barely 2.5 inches tall. That makes him one of the shortest action figures produced even up until now? But he is definitely the shortest among the popular toys back then.
